Feature request? - Handling of special characters

Dec 14, 2015 at 4:43 PM
Hi Yvan,

we have 6 different ADs and one Novell LDAP connected to SharePoint 2013 and a truly international user base. When we search for user names with peoplepicker, then the special characters are differently handled by the ADs than by the LDAP. ADs are dealing with the query text quite liberate and more intelligent: commas are not taken into consideration and instead of special characters it is enough to use english alphabet characters. LDAP is on the other hand just quering with the typed in characters and a * at the end.
Sometimes the user expect more results, because for the AD less specific query is enough and wonder why the rest is not found from the LDAP (which is connected through ADFS).

Where would you see such a feature which could enhance the user experience by making the queries more intelligent?
Is it possible at all to query with question mark ("?") instead of special characters? Or would that have a great impact on the query performance?

Thanks for any tips and thoughts in advance,

Hello Miklos,
This scenario is interesting. LDAPCP could let SharePoint administrator decide if special characters should be replaced with wildcard '?' through an additional option in LDAPCP administration page.
Then the only issue is that I don't know if I will have the time to implement this in the near future...
Did you already test this kind of LDAP query in your environment to measure the impact in terms of performance?
